"The mission of the Psi Beta honor society is professional development of psychology students in two-year colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service." Psi Beta's National Council, June 9, 1996. |
Psi Beta is an affiliate of The American Psychological Association (APA), which is a major professional organization for psychologists. To join Psi Beta, you must have completed a semester of Psychology with a 3.1 or better and you must have completed at least one semester of college work with an overall GPA of ~ 3.0 (varies each semester). Dues for the first year are $55.00, which includes both a one-time fee of $50.00 to the national organization for a lifetime membership, and an additional annual fee of $5.00. The $5.00 fee must be renewed each year. The annual fee also covers your membership in the Psychology Club.
Membership in Psi Beta is a permanent record of achievement that may be beneficial on applications and resumes. Moreover, it provides leadership and community service opportunities. Members may also apply for special scholarships and awards. For more information, please visit the National Psi Beta website http://www.psibeta.org/ for more information.
